Darters Drying Out

The African Darter’s (Anhinga rufa) feathers do not contain any oil making them not waterproof. After diving for food they often become waterlogged. They can be seen sitting along the waterside spreading their wings and drying their feathers in the wind and the sun so they can fly and maintain heat insulation.
